Kenya and Uganda set to renew rivalry in the U20 Barthes Trophy quarters

The 2023 U20 Barthes Trophy quarter-final pairings have been confirmed. Eight teams will square it out during three match days for Africa’s premier age-grade title.

Familiar foes Kenya and Uganda meet again in the quarterfinals. These two sides met at this very stage in last year’s showpiece with Kenya winning 54–20. The showstopper is expected to kick off at exactly 4.30 pm.

All the quarterfinal games will be played on Saturday 22 April while the semifinals are slated for Wednesday 26 April. The final and the 3rd place playoff will be the main attractions on Sunday 30 April.

Defending champions Zimbabwe will begin their title defense against promoted Cote d’Ivoire at 9 am. The Elephants were relegated during last year’s tournament but then regained their U20 Barthes Trophy status after defeating Senegal 27–23 in a repechage game played in January.

Last year’s beaten finalists Namibia will then take on Zambia at 11.30 am before the Junior Makis of Madagascar kick start the afternoon session against Tunisia at 2 pm.

Kenya, Namibia, and defending Champions Zimbabwe have already announced their squads for the tournament. Zimbabwe has eight returning players from their previous campaign in their provisional squad which is expected to be trimmed to the final 28 as we get closer to the tournament.

Kenya and Namibia have also announced their final squads for the tournament with Kenya including four returnees and Namibia including two.
